Bud was born on March 10, 1924, the tenth of fourteen children – three of whom died in infancy. He grew up in Tazewell County, in Central Illinois, with the remaining six brothers and four sisters.

Bud and all six of his brothers served in World War II; all returned home.

He married Eleanor Eberle in 1947, and they had two sons: Timothy David and Kirk Durand.  His two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jonathan, call him “Grandbuddy”.

Bud has had a long and varied work life, most notably as a maintenance supervisor for the Peoria Post Office, before retiring.

He is a long time member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, where he has served in many capacities, including elder,  choir member, and tenor soloist.

Growing up in a rural area on the east side of the Illinois River, he always considered that his near proximity to (and in) the woodlands and pastures nurtured and contributed to his sentiments. This, along with the influence of his mother and father, many siblings, and the overall nearness to nature and the trees were, perhaps, contributing factors.
