Our October program was a learning experience for all, thanks to Phyllis Pryde, and her love of classic Haiku Poetry. She gave a short presentation on the history of haiku. With roots dating back to 7th century Japanese narrative poetry, haiku didn’t catch on in the U.S. till the mid 1950s. To finish her program, Pryde had us compose and recite a haiku. The end results were as interesting and varied as the members of the Peoria Poetry Club.
